Twenty thousand ! It has been done : the symbolic threshold of 20,000 participants was crossed in mid-March by the MIPIM 2006 (a record number for the organizer Reed Midem since its creation in 1990). It is true that since the 3GSM World Congress has left for Barcelona, it is now the biggest Show in Cannes in daily number of participants. But this year, the MIPIM has taken it a dimension further with more than 2,000 people turning up representing a total of 74 different nationalities (towns, organizations, promoters, builders, banks, investors, hotel chains, shopping centers, real estate dealers…) and an increase of 20% in attendance from 2005. Showcase of the most important programs of the planet An outstanding participation meeting up to the standards of the enormous International projects represented during this 17th edition. Excepting Russia which has doubled in size, The United Arab Emirates have imposed themselves with an iron hand in this globalization of real estate. Dubai, one of the seven Emirates stands out particularly! With its impressive programs such as The Palm, Sports City, The World or even the future highest tower of the world “Burj Dubai” (705m for 160 floors!), this city-country never ceases to astonish the planet with its pharaonical projects. The Americans also manifested their ambition of getting into the European Market. Take for example the presence of Jorge Perez, president of Related Group of Florida (10 billion $ in sales), to whom the organizers awarded a special prize honoring him for his professionalism. Note that this is not Jorge Perez’s first prize. In 2005, Time magazine hailed him as one of the most influential Hispanics of the United States. Forbes classified him among one of the 400 richest men in America. And the Ernst & Young office called him “Entrepreneur of the year”. At his side for the MIPIM 2006, the French designer Philippe Starck who was given the job of decorating the interior of the Icon Towers in Miami. Briefly, higher, more majestic and more luxurious, the international programs have not had their last word.
